Golden AgersThe Oct. 14 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was well attended with 37 members present. President Irene Hudasky conducted the meeting.Guest speaker Tina Burns shared her knowledge explaining changes to the medical billing under Medicare and other insurances.Sign-ups are still being taken for the annual Christmas party to be held Dec. 1 beginning at 4 p.m. at La Dolce Casa in Tamaqua. The last day to register is Nov. 11.The next meeting will be held on Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall. The Halloween dress-up will take place.Preschool story hourThe Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, offers a free, preschool story hour every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.Stories, snacks and activities are provided for the children.NesquehoningLadies AuxiliaryThe regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Post Home. Treasurer Maureen Hirochek presided at the meeting as ranking officer.General Orders 3 were read and filed for action. Under Veterans and Family Support, 38 cards were sent by the members present.A bloodmobile collection was held on Sept. 25 and several members donated blood.It was noted that the Tobyhanna Army Depot bulletin provides very good information regarding veterans benefits and events.Ann Adams also reported that the Hickory Run Plaza on the turnpike was dedicated to Blue Star Families on Oct. 14.Members were reminded to schedule annual mammograms under the Cancer Program report.Pamphlets on the Voice of Democracy Program have been given to Rick Morgans at Panther Valley High School.If a date is available, there will be a Poppy Day at Redner's for Veterans Day.All those present voiced their disappointment and disgust at the recent Government Shutdown and urged members to contact their legislators to end the stalemate.Hirochek reported on the district meeting held in Albrightsville on Sept. 15.Donations were made to Unmet Needs and the Department President's Special Project, which is Friends of Fisher House.The annual Carbon County Veterans Day Parade will be held in Lehighton Nov. 10.The annual Christmas party will tentatively be held Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Lengyels. More information will follow next month.District President Bandzi then inspected the auxiliary and found the unit in good working order and meeting its obligations, considering there are only a few active members involved.Members are reminded that annual dues are now payable. The next meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Nov. 12 at the Post Home.CoaldaleFirst Congregational ChurchMorning Worship at First Congregational Church, Coaldale, will be conducted at 9 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 27, followed by Sunday School at 10 a.m.Kids Klub will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30. Choir rehearsal will take place at 7 p.m.Services on Sunday, Nov. 3 will mark the beginning of Harvest Home. Donations of nonperishable food items will be appreciated. They will be distributed on Nov. 24.Women's Class will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5.The following day, Nov. 6, nursing home services will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Miners, Coaldale, and at 1:30 p.m. at MapleShade, Nesquehoning.Rehearsal for the Veterans Day Community Choir will be held at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6.
