'Fantasyland' focus of parade Saturday

Picture being in an imaginary place that provokes wonder and astonishment.

Participants in the 106th annual Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade on Saturday won't have to ponder that thought any longer. That's because the theme of this year's parade is "Halloween in Fantasy Land."The parade will start at 6:30 p.m. The lineup will form at 4:30 p.m.It will start in Slatington, continue down Main Street, and go through Walnutport, where it will end at the Walnutport Playground on Lincoln Avenue.A party for parade participants will be held afterward at the Walnutport Playground pavilion.Laura Stauffer, committee chair for the Northern Lehigh Events Committee Inc., said The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #375, will help volunteer."We'd like to thank them," Stauffer said. "Because without them, we wouldn't have a parade this year."The community almost didn't have a parade last year, due to what Stauffer referred to as a then-lack of volunteers.Eventually, Stauffer said enough volunteers came together to ensure last year's parade would be held."I'd like to see the Northern Lehigh community actually work together; that would be a huge goal for the parade," she said. "We span three municipalities; Slatington, Walnutport, and Washington Township, and sometimes it is really hard to get some of the municipalities to work with each other and work together."Stauffer added, "Without all three working together, things can't happen. It's the Northern Lehigh parade, and that point seems to get lost sometimes."She said anyone who would like to volunteer, or for more information on this year's parade, may call 484-265-1028, or email
