South Ward treats

Tamaqua Mayor Chris Morrison has set Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m., as Trick or Treat Night in the borough. The South Ward Neighborhood Committee and the South Ward Playground Association will combine forces to provide a safe trick or treat event that evening and are extending an invitation for residents of the ward who wish to participate.Residents are welcome to bring their Halloween treats to the playground and set up a table. There will also be arrangements for those unable to attend, but still willing to have their treats distributed to the little ghouls and goblins. Participating residents may wish to place a sign on their doors, directing youngsters to the playground area."Treaters" are welcome to preregister to ensure there are enough tables.For more information, call Kathy at 570-668-1251.Charity walkThe Tamaqua Volunteer group is planning its first annual Walking Scared for Charity event, which will take place Sunday, Oct. 27. The afternoon event will begin at noon at the Tamaqua YMCA, where participants may register and have their faces painted to look like zombies. The actual walk will be three separate but connected events. Participants may elect to walk in one or all three.The first will be in Brockton. Then, organizers will move on to Coaldale. Anyone with outdated or unused medication may take those drugs to the police station, located at the rear of 320 E. Broad St.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include the observance of Reformation Sunday. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m., Sunday school harvest party will be held from 4-7 p.m., Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Monday, Bible study session at 6 p.m., play practice at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m.The choir rehearses on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: junior choir at 7 p.m. and senior choir at 7:30 p.m.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.
