Children's activities

Preschool story hour takes place at 10:30 a.m. every Friday and is open to the public.Tail Waggin' Tutors, where children read to dogs, takes place from 11 a.m. until noon on the second Saturday of each month. It is free but parents must register for a time slot by calling the library.Watercolor painting classes are offered on Tuesdays for children (and Saturdays for adults). Call the teacher at 610-737-9844 for more information.Homework Helpers for grades K-6 takes place Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15 p.m.; and for grades 7-8 on Tuesdays from 2:45-3:45 p.m. This is free, but parents must register each child.The teen advisory group, for students in grades 5-12, meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. Information is available on the bulletin board by the elevator or by calling the library and speaking with Mariann. The group will sponsor a Halloween Scavenger Hunt, which is open to all. Pick up an entry form at the library. Items must be turned in by Nov. 9.There will be a Halloween Rock Painting for children from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. There is a fee and preregistration is required.Activities for allThe Knitting Club meets from 6-8 p.m. the first and third Monday of each month. It is free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting on all skill levels.The Third Monday Book Club meets from noon until 1 p.m. the third Monday of the month. New members are welcome. On Oct. 21 the club will discuss "Defending Jacob" by William Landay.The library also hosts an online book club. Readers need to create a Goodreads account and sign up for the Palmerton Area Library online book club. The book for October is "Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter" by Tom Franklin.Yoga classes are offered at 9 a.m. every Saturday. Call the teacher at 570-436-1762 for more information or stop in.The library board of directors meets at 4 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month. Meetings are open to the public.The Friends of the Palmerton Area Library meet four times a year. The next meeting is at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8. All are welcome.The Sew What Quilt Guild meets at the library at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month. New members and visitors are welcome. Use the side door.For information on computer classes call the library. The beginner class is full, but names are being placed on a waiting list for spring. There are also advanced classes, which include Excel and spread sheets, and a digital camera class.An auction of handcrafted items will take place at the library from Nov. 8 through Dec. 6. Donations of items may be dropped off at the library before Nov. 1. All proceeds will benefit the library.The library is open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday.
