Pleasant Valley's Austyn Borre was well aware of the game plan his Bears had in store for Allen last week.

And because of it, the sophomore running back was like a kid waiting for Christmas morning."I couldn't stop thinking about it," said Borre. "I was just so pumped up and amped up. And then every time I touched the ball I was just trying to get to the end zone."The gameplan was to go in and run the ball. It continued to work so we were going to keep doing it until they stopped it. It was definitely exciting, especially for a running back. I always want the ball in my hands as much as possible. We can also pass the ball, and it's a great asset to be able to run and pass the ball. It just so happened that we ran a lot more that game."Did they ever.Pleasant Valley didn't throw a single pass in Saturday's 50-0 rout of the Canaries, which left Borre as the key weapon in the Bears' offense. He didn't disappoint.The 5-10, 185-pounder carried 24 times for 213 yards and four touchdowns ... all in the first half.That performance earned him the TIMES NEWS Player of the Week, an honor he also received during his freshman year."Austyn has been a real consistent performer in our offense for two years," said head coach Jim Terwilliger. "He's got great breakaway speed, he runs with a lot of conviction and in the game against Allen he ran with a purpose and you could see that in his running style. He was able to break a lot of tackles and put up a lot of yardage."It was neat to watch him run. We had a lot of guys around him that did a nice job down the field, but he ran with such a purpose it was inspiring to the other guys. And the yardage kind of spoke for itself."Yardage is something Borre has been compiling since his first varisty game.According to TIMES NEWS statistics, he has topped 100 yards rushing in 10 of his 20 games. Against Allen, he reached 200 for the second time in his career.With the rest of this season remaining and his junior and senior years to come, Borre has already totaled 2,184 rushing yards on 337 carries. He has scored 29 touchdowns (24 on the ground) and his teams have compiled a 14-6 record."I definitely like the ball in my hands but I'm going to do everything 100 percent whether it's blocking, going out for a pass or running the ball," said Borre. "That game was amazing. If every game was like that everybody would get in and get some touches. Everybody was having a good time and having fun. That's what makes me happy."What makes his head coach happy is Borre's attitude toward the game and the way he plays when he's on the field."Austyn's in great shape," said Terwilliger. "He practices real hard. He's a workhorse. We could give him the ball 40 times and he wouldn't have a problem with that. He's worked extremely hard in the weight room and the speed training program."He doesn't take any plays off whether the ball's going to him or going away from him. He's great at being a good football player and that's what we want on offense 11 good football players."Borre and the rest of the first team offense actually did take quite a few plays off in Saturday's contest. After building a 40-0 halftime lead, Terwilliger had them on the sidelines for the entire second half.While Borre would have preferred to be on the field, the decision was understood."If you're worth your weight, of course you want to play the game," said Terwilliger. "Sitting a half of football isn't what any of these guys want to do but there's a right way of doing things and they realize that."I just love the young man and I look forward to a lot of great days ahead."
