The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met Oct. 17 with 81 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided humorous readings. Jacque Patrick provided the invocation "God's Autumn." The meeting concluded with cards and social games.This week's meeting will include a celebration of Halloween. Members are welcome to come in costume. Hot dogs will be served.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.Tax exemptionsThe Schuylkill County and Tamaqua Borough Per Capita and Occupation Tax Exemption Forms for the year 2014 will become available on Monday for Borough of Tamaqua residents.The exemption forms can be obtained at the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.Forms will also be available at tax collector Alan Kerr's office, the Tamaqua Area School District Administration building, the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, Majestic House Apartment Complex, the Tamaqua Public Library and the Tamaqua Post Office.Residents must complete the form each year to qualify for the tax exemption.Exoneration forms must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 31, 2014.Calvary EvangelicalThe Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.An hour of prayer and praise is held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.A Rally Day celebration will be held Nov. 3. A special presentation will be made at 10:30 a.m. by the Sunday school class. Nancy and Terry Snyder will perform at 6:30 p.m.Voting changeDue to the bridge construction project on East Broad Street, voters in Tamaqua's Precinct 3 will see a temporary change in polling site. Instead of the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, the voting place has been changed to Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St.Fitness programA free exerette fitness program, designed for the young at heart, is offered at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St., every Tuesday and Thursday.
