A Tamaqua driver is facing charges following a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 7:18 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, along Catawissa Road at the border of the Schuylkill and Walker Township line. State police at Frackville said Abilgai Velazquez, 22, was driving a 2004 GMC Envoy southbound, just north of the Walker Township line, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The GMC went onto the right shoulder, then overturned onto the passenger side. Velazquez was not injured. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene. Troopers said Velazquez was cited for driving without a license, driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed, and driving on roadways laned for traffic. Tamaqua Ambulance, Tamaqua Rescue Squad and New England/Walker Fire Company volunteers assisted at the scene, troopers said, along with other area emergency responders.
