Northern Lehigh High School is hosting the Tournament of Bands Chapter 2 Championships at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bulldog Community Stadium.

The event will be one of 13 chapter level competitions held over the weekend, according to David Carroll, band director, who added that the chapter level competition is a qualifying and seeding competition for the Tournament of Bands prestigious Atlantic Coast Championships, which will be held the following two weekends at Hershey Park Stadium.Carroll said that in addition to placement awards, awards will be given for High Music, High Visual, High Color Guard, and High Percussion. A Marine Color Guard is scheduled to present the colors for the national anthem, he said.Also, The United States Marine Corps, in conjunction with NLSD, will present the Esprit de Corps award, which will be given to the band that demonstrates superior conduct, and represents their school in an exemplary manner while at the competition, Carroll said.Northern Lehigh, as the host school, will not be eligible for the award, he said."Northern Lehigh will dedicate the presentation of this award to all military personal that served our nation, and to all active duty service personal of the United States Armed forces," Carroll said. "As the son of a veteran, I believe it is right and fitting that we take a moment to honor our Military Personal and their families."Among the bands that will be in competition are: Reading, Northwestern Lehigh, Wilson (West Lawn), Whitehall, Catasauqua, Williams Valley, North Schuylkill, Schuylkill Haven, Blue Mountain, Daniel Boone, and Northern Lehigh.The Tournament of Bands Chapter 2 will also award two scholarships on Sunday to seniors students who are performing in the competition.The TOB encompasses member bands from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, West Virginia, Virginia, New York, and North Carolina. These Nine states are divvied into regional subdivisions called Chapters.Chapter 2 is the greater Lehigh Valley Region, that extends west to Reading and northern into the Poconos.Each team competes against bands of the same approximate size or "Group." The school's student population is not a factor in determining a bands Group size.
