Palmerton opens bids for trash collection/recycling

Palmerton hopes to soon award a contract for its solid waste collection.

The borough received three bids on Thursday, with Tamaqua Transfer turning in the apparent low bids of $1,044,000 for a three-year trash/recycling contract, and $1,767,840 for a five-year contract.Alternate bids submitted by Tamaqua Transfer were $1,444,000 for three-year trash tote; $1,114,000 for three-year recycling tote; $2,267,840 for five-year trash tote; and $1,837,840 for 5-year trash tote.Advanced Disposal of Northampton bid: $1,052,298, three-year trash/recycling; $1,130,922, 3-year trash tote; $1,066,923, three-year recycling; $1,788,930, five-year trash/recycling; $1,922,310, five-year trash tote; and $1,803,555, five-year recycling tote.J.P. Mascaro, of Audubon, Montgomery County, bid: $1,099,080, three-year trash/recycling; $1,207,188, 3-year trash tote; $1,113,822, three-year recycling tote; $1,908,540, five-year trash/recycling; $2,088,720, five-year trash tote; and $1,933,110, five-year recycling tote.Borough Manager Rodger Danielson said the bids will be referred to council for action at a later date.A bid award could come when borough council meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24.The contract includes labor and equipment for pick-up, transportation, and disposal and/or recycling of municipal solid waste generated from about 1,950 residential and commercial units within the borough.
