A welfare check by Pocono Mountain Regional police resulted in drug charges being filed against the person being check.

The incident occurred on April 24 about 6:20 p.m. when officers went to the residence of Fred Kaplan, 65, of Albrightsville. After making contact with Kaplan police observed numerous items of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the home. While interviewing Kaplan it was learned that more suspected marijuana was inside the home.A consent search was obtained and found in the home was over a pound of suspected marijuana. Charges were subsequently filed after the items were tested at a state police crime lab.Kaplan was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug parpahernalia.
