Contracts were awarded by the Schuylkill County Commissioners for construction of handicap accesses at the West Penn Township Park and Pine Grove Township municipal building, in action taken at Wednesday's work session held at the courthouse in Pottsville.

Spotts Brothers of Schuylkill Haven was awarded the contract in the amount of $33,419 for the West Penn Township project and Arthur "Pat" Aungst, Pine Grove, in the amount of $13,374 for the Pine Grove Township project.Both projects are funded through their own Community Development Block Grant received from the state and both are being administered by Gary Bender, county CDBG director.A contract extension and addendum was approved for Encore Rehabilitation Services to Oct. 31, 2014, and to increase the contract for physical therapy to $352,500, occupational therapy to $310,000 and speech therapy to $170,600, and all other terms of the original contract to continue.A fee for service contract was approved with Benefits Data Trust, Philadelphia, in the amount of $46,396 for Office of Senior Services to process the medicare part D Low Income Subsidy (LIS) applications on behalf of Aprise and its extended network in relation to the Medicare Improvements For Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA).A contract was entered with Hess Embroidery and Uniforms Company, West Reading, in the amount of $38,019.40 for 2013 staff uniforms at the Schuylkill County prison.Settlement approvedA settlement was approved of potential litigation by Hahner's Brothers Inc. of Pottsville which had been awarded a contract for re-roofing the county's public safety building located on North Centre Street, Pottsville, which houses the Emergency Management staff and where the 9-1-1 Emergency Center is located.The agreement approved increases by $11,784.02 the bid submitted by Hahner for the roofing job. The new total bid is $104,748.02. The contractor claimed a price error in the bid. Hahner was the low bidder.A contract extension was granted to Heim Construction Company for completion of renovation of a county bridge which carries Mahantongo Mountain Road over Mahantongo Creek.The county election bureau received approval to relocate the voting place for Mount Carbon Borough residents from borough hall to the borough's headquarters at 1105 S. Centre St., Pottsville.
