Councilman cited for harrassment

State police at Lehighton have cited a Lansford Borough councilman with harassment after he allegedly threatened to kill someone if she harmed his ex-girlfriend's dogs.

Trooper Joseph A. Campbell on Sept. 26 cited Leonard S. "Lenny" Kovach, 46, with harassment involving physical contact after an incident that happened at 2 p.m. Aug. 3 on East Bertsch Street, Lansford.A hearing is scheduled on the matter at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 13 before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford.Additional details of the altercation were not known as of early Thursday, and efforts to reach Kovach for comment were unsuccessful.Kovach was appointed to council on Sept. 2008 to replace Councilman Christopher Ondrus, who had resigned. Kovach was then elected to his first term in 2009, and won the Democratic nomination to another term on council in the May Primary election.He has had a few brushes with the law.Police cited Kovach for harassment in April 2011 after he threatened fellow councilman Tommy Vadyak during a council meeting. In 2009, police charged him withhindering apprehensionin connection with adriving-under-the-influence related hit and run.
