Three hundred and seventy-seven Summit Hill petitioners got welcome news Monday night as council responded to their request to pursue their property and accepted the pro bono offer of Jim Thorpe Attorney Carole Walbert to recover the hilltop community's cannons from the current possessor Ken Watterson of Venetta, Pa.

Summit Hill resident David Hiles, speaking on behalf of the petitioners who want the cannons restored to their original home in Ludlow Park, read and presented the signed petition to the council requesting that they "make a zealous yet reasonable effort to retrieve the cannons" based on the belief they are property of Summit Hill Borough. The petition cited the cannon presentation predate the formation of the Legion and their presense on borough property for 85 years as a few of the facts that should prove the borough's case for ownership.
