Lioness fashion show a beautiful success

"Once upon a Time," began the 17th annual fashion show presented by the Western Pocono Lioness Club as a major fun and fundraiser for the club's program year.

With 33 presentations by over 15 models, food, entertainment, special recognitions, and about 150 club members and friends present from far and near for a good cause, the show was deemed "a great success" by WPLC President Ruth Smith."We see so many repeat guests and everyone is telling us what a great time they have," she adds. That was echoed by first-time visitors Sharon Jens and Marielle Mendez.Among the models was Lioness Rita Sweeney, who was recognized for being one of the original club members when the club formed almost 35 years ago. She has also served as president twice during that time.A special award was the Sisterhood Award, explained by Smith, presented to the Lioness that epitomizes one who is linked as a sister in "an association, society, or community of women linked by a common interest, religion or trade."The honoree was "a very special woman, someone who gives her time and her talents to 'our' sisterhood and does it all with grace and a sense of humor. We could never do what we do without her," said Smith, calling forward Lioness Mary Ann Lalumia. The award was presented by last year's awardee, Lioness vice president Nancy L. Beck.Outfits from day wear to glamourous, including a bridal gown, from Coldwater Creek, Dress Barn and Elegant Bridal, kept guests watching and applauding. Door prizes and entertainment by students of Melody Dance Studio, helped fill in the times between model presentations. And in "Once Upon A Time," the Western Pocono Lioness had another successful fashion show that would translate into touching the lives of area residents as the club donates funds to various groups and problems to fulfill its motto, "We serve."
