Benefit raises funds for Quakake couple

Friends and family members of Stacey Rex-Bennett and her husband James "Jim" Bennett, both of Quakake, came together over the weekend to hold two events as part of the three-event Stompin' For Stretch benefit.

Stacey is struggling with cancer, while Jim remains in the hospital after receiving a serious burn at work.Both are the parents of two children, Breanna and Brendan.In all, three events are being held to help the Bennett family with medical and other expenses. The first two events, consisting of a spaghetti dinner at the Tamaqua Elks Lodge and gift card Bingo at the Quakake Fire Company, were held over the weekend, and consisted of live music, food and chances to win numerous prizes.The last event, expected to be the largest, involves a 100-mile benefit ride on Saturday October 12 at the Tamaqua Elks Lodge (201 W. Broad St.). Registration for the ride starts at 10 a.m. The ride, which starts at 11 a.m., includes live music, food drinks, basket raffles, door prizes and other family activities.For more information on the event, visit it on Facebook, or call (570) 818-4024."Anyone who knows Stacey and Jim, knows that they are a wonderful, warm, and funny couple - with hearts of gold," said friend Judi Musselman.
