The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met Sept. 19 with 70 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session. Jacque Patrick provided the invocation "The Art of Living".One new member, Kathleen McGonigle, was given a warm welcome. Flu shots were administered by a representative from Rite Aid. Carol Yanalavage was added to the sick list and Helen Clouser was removed from the sick list.Upcoming dates for members to remember are: Oct. 3, celebration of August and September birthdays; Oct. 10, Chinese Auction and pizza party; Dec. 12, Christmas party.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.Voting changeDue to the bridge construction project on East Broad Street, voters in Tamaqua's Precinct 3 will see a temporary change in polling site. Instead of the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, the voting place has been changed to Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St.Any voter who will find it difficult to travel to borough hall may apply for an absentee ballot.Applications are available at the ABC High Rise, the office of state Rep. Jerry Knowles and at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce office.Week of prayerThe Tamaqua Salvation Army will continue its 24 hour/7-day period of prayer this week as part of a Salvation Army worldwide effort to bathe participating communities, and the world, in prayer.Each of the Salvation Army's Network of Prayer Rooms is pledging to pray for 24 hours a day for a specific week, carrying the "baton of prayer" from location to location.Tamaqua's event will conclude at midnight on Sept. 28 and is being held at 105 W. Broad St. The public is welcome to participate and may schedule a time by calling (570) 668-0410.Gallery showThe Tamaqua Community Art Center will sponsor a meet and greet session for local photographer Tracy A. Perry. The event will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Sept. 26, at 125 Pine St.The artist will be available to share the history behind each piece of art.The free meet and greet session is open to the public.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. The contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m., at the church.Also this Sunday, the Christian education commission will meet at 11:45 a.m., the operations and care and connection commissions will meet at 12:30 p.m. and the outreach commission will meet at 1 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Good News Club meets at 3:15 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician practice at 8:30 a.m., praise rehearsal at 9:30 a.m.Zion LutheranHarvest Home will be celebrated during the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.Donated nonperishable food items are to be at the church no later than Thursday, at the end of office hours. All donations will then be given to the Friends in Need Food Pantry at Trinity United Church of Christ.
