Hometown mancited for incident

A Hometown man will be cited by Tamaqua police following an altercation at the Tamaqua Tobacco Shop.

Officers were dispatched to the store at 6:21 p.m. on Sept. 17 for a fight in progress. As they responded they were updated that one of the participants was now across the street at the American Hose Company. When officers arrived they noticed Joseph Shamonsky, 69, of 19 Swenson St., who had blood on his lip. After speaking with all of the parties involved, as well as witnesses, it was determined that Shamonsky had bought an electronic cigarette device at the store. He was unsatisfied with his purchase and the store clerk's response. He began arguing with the female clerk and at one point challenged a 17-year-old male in the store to "step outside." Once outside, Shamonsky reportedly pushed the teen who then punched him in the mouth. Both men will be charged with harassment, while Shamonsky will also be cited for disorderly conduct.
