Clean up week begins today at various county locations

Tamaqua Transfer Station, located along Sewage Plant Road, will be participating in the Schuylkill County Fall Cleanup and Recycling event this week.

The plant will be accepting items Monday, Sept. 23 through Friday, Sept. 27 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 28, from 7 a.m. to noon. Items it will be accepting, some with a fee, are as follows:Electronics - Television sets, microwaves, computer systems with no charge. Computer systems includes one monitor, one hard drive, printer and or scanner and peripheral, single monitor, hard drive, printer, etc.Tires - Only automobile, light truck and motorcycle/RV tires up to 16" diameter are accepted at $2 per tire without rims, $3 per tire with rims, limit 10 tires per load and no more than two loads per customer. Municipalities will also be charged the per tire fee and are requested to make an appointment with the host collection site for large loads.Appliances - Freon bearing air conditioners, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, $10 each. Non-freon bearing and scrap metal, stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters, bicycles, barbecue grills, metal furniture, no charge.Bulky Items - Mattresses, box springs, rolls of carpet, doors and windows, $10 each. Sofas, overstuffed chairs, $5 per cushion.Proof of county resident must be provided. Such items as household hazardous waste, including paints, solvents, cleaners, poison, will not be accepted.Other sites participating this week are as follows:Minersville Borough, North Delaware Avenue Compost Site - weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon.Girardville Borough, behind the "A" Street School - Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m and Saturday from 9 a.m to 1 p.m.Porter Township, township building at 309 W. Wiconisco St., Muir - Thursday and Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.Hegins Township, township building at 421 S. Gap St., Valley View - Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.Schuylkill Haven Borough, Saint Charles St., Compost Site, weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.The program is sponsored by the Schuylkill County Commissioners.
