A Saylorsburg student's dramatic insight into one of the darkest chapters in 20th century history has won her top honors in a national writing contest.

Tenth-grader Bryn Thorsson was feted at Pleasant Valley Middle School for her win in the annual competition sponsored by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.The question posed to contestants, some 1,400 students between the ages of 14 and 18, was whether the United States should have participated in the 1936 Olympics.Thorsson's answer took the form of a short three-act play, the first play Thorsson has ever written.
