The Tamaqua Board of Health held its September meeting with Earl Boettger, Randy Gormley, Shirley Becker, Health Officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and Code Enforcement Officer Mitch Geist in attendance.Geist reported making 10 spot check inspections, including at Happy Endings, Tamaqua Diner, Luigi's Pizza, Broad Street Deli, Burger King, Sisters Cantina, Turkey Hill, Hang Loose, Grande Pizza and Hunan House. The total number of licenses issued so far this year is 45. He also received and adjusted 13 complaints: one leaking sewer; one building condemned as unfit for human habitation; and 11 trash complaints. There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.The board reminded residents that dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.Violations should be reported to Tamaqua Borough Hall, (570) 668-3444. Please provide the place, date, time and name of the dog's owner. This year's event will feature more than a dozen participating local high school marching bands, including: Annville-Cleona, Bangor, Emmaus, Exeter Township, Mahanoy Area, Minersville, Nativity BVM, Panther Valley, Pottsville Area, Shenandoah Valley, Southern Lehigh, Tri Valley and Wilson.Gates will open at 5 p.m. and the competition will begin at 6:30 p.m.Calvary EvangelicalThe Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley.
