A Carbon County man, set to have a jury picked on Monday to hear testimony in a sexual assault case against him, instead entered a guilty plea to six criminal counts in exchange for more serious offenses to be dropped.

He was one of two defendants to enter a plea on Monday.Bradley R. Johnson, 62, of Lehighton, pleaded to two counts each of indecent assault, corruption of minors, and open lewdness. In exchange for the plea the district attorney's office dropped felony counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault without consent, and aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 13.Johnson was charged with having inappropriate contact with two young girls, ages 12 and 14 at the time of the incidents, that occurred during the period of 2009-2010 at a home in East Penn Township.The charges were filed by township Police Chief James Danner.Police charged that Johnson had sexual contact with the two girls and made them touch his private areas.Johnson, who is confined to a wheelchair, has been in prison since his arrest in early 2010.Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing because the charges fall under the provisions of Megan's Law. Johnson was ordered to undergo a sexual offenders evaluation to determine if he is a violent sexual predator. Matika also ordered a presentence investigation (PSI) report be prepared by the adult probation office.Matika noted that Johnson will have to register for life as a sexual offender under the terms of the plea. The plea agreement also contains a provision that Johnson can not move to withdraw his plea.Drug countsScott Michael Kulp, 43, of Lehighton, pleaded guilty to one count of delivery of a controlled substance-oxycodone.He was arrested by agents of the state Attorney General's office after he sold the drug to a confidential informant (CI) at a residence along S. Second St., in Lehighton. The sale occurred on March 24, 2011.In exchange for the plea another criminal complaint filed in connection with another sale to a CI was dropped.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the plea but deferred sentencing and ordered a PSI.
