Art League welcomes public to program by Nigerian artist

The Carbon County Art League welcomes the public to a presentation by artist Ibiyinka Olufemi Alao at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 11 at Penn Kidder Senior Center, located in Bear Creek Plaza, Route 903, Jim Thorpe. The program and refreshments are compliments of the art league.

Alao is an artist who recently represented his country, Nigeria, and became the first-place winner of the United Nations International Art Competition among 61 countries.His entry "Girls and a Greener Environment" chronicles the life of a girl-child from infancy to adulthood and the values she acquires along the paths of life.In his presentation he will talk about "Art as Frozen Music," contemporary African art, and art as it relates to his title and work as an art ambassador for the United Nations, highlighting his work with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), for World Peace and Indigenous Cultures.Today, Alao's paintings speak volumes and the impact of his work has received worldwide recognition. It has been exhibited at the Harvard Business School, the Indianapolis Art Center and the Martin Luther King Art Center.His work has also been shown at the African Unity Festival, the Nigerian Consulate, the Nigerian Embassy, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Cultures, the New York University Brownstone Salon, the Queens Borough Library International Resource Center and the United Nations headquarters.For more information, email the art league at
