Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Aug. 27 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 59 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session. Two new members, Joan Brown and Pat Stephens, were welcomed to the group.Birthday greetings were extended to Betty Beltz, Rose Valee and Carol Yanalavage. Florina Martin, Madeline Heffelfinger, Melody Weicker and Dorothy Schmerfeld were added to the sick list. Refreshments were served by Rose Valee, Betty Toro, Ruth Ann Fene, Carol Yanalavage and Lorraine Benedict. Bingo and cards followed the business meeting.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Rush taxesThe office of Rush Tax Collector Dolores Walck will be closed on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18. This is a change in the schedule posted on the tax bills.BloodmobileThe American Red Cross Bloodmobile will return to Tamaqua on Sept. 20. The social hall at St. John United Church of Christ, Pine and Biddle Streets, will be turned into a blood collection center, which will be open from 1-6 p.m.Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to donate blood. A mini health history will be done at the time of donation to further determine eligibility status.There is an urgent need for platelet donors and the American Red Cross has issued an emergency appeal for blood donors of all blood types, and those with O negative, B negative and A negative blood.St. John UCCSunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ. A time of food and fellowship will be held following the service. The weekly radio broadcast is aired at 11:30 a.m., every Sunday, on WLSH Radio, AM station 1410.Sunday school classes meet at 11 a.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, Consistory meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, hoagie pick up from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This week's service will include a Harvest Home Festival, Sunday school promotions and a Joyous Noise Offering. Sunday School will be held at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m. and the bell choir will rehearse at 6:30 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Monday, food co-op at 9 a.m., play practice at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Sunday school teachers meet at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, hoagie pick up from noon to 2 p.m., prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m., worship and music committee will meet at 6 p.m. and senior choir practice will be held at 7:30 p.m.
