Schuylkill man is charged with pointing gun at police

State police have charged a West Brunswick Township man with attempted homicide for pointing a rifle at a trooper.

Edward C. Hill, 54, of Mohrsville, is in Schuylkill County Prison under $250,000 cash bail. He is also charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and other offenses.According to police, the situation unfolded at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday as Hill got into a physical altercation with Edward Welty, who is the caretaker of the mobile home park where Hill lived. State police at Schuylkill Haven were called, and a trooper was talking with Welty when he saw a man walking on the nearby railroad tracks. Welty identified the man as Hill.The trooper yelled to Hill, who ran along the tracks away from the trooper, and grabbed a long rifle that was laying with a bag alongside the tracks.Hill turned and pointed the rifle at the trooper, who fired his own gun at Hill.Hill walked back along the tracks in the direction of New Ringgold.Following a manhunt, Hill was arrested without incident early Friday and arraigned before District Judge James Ferrier of Orwigsburg.
