Annual Lions Club auto show set for Sunday

Oldies, but goodies.

Vintage vehicles are sure to be on full display at the 25th annual Slatington Lions Club Antique/Collector Car Show.The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Slatington Airport along State Route 873. The rain date is Monday.Registration of cars is from 9 a.m. to noon. The first 200 preregistered cars will receive a custom dash plaque, while the first 150 preregistered will receive a special participation award.Parking will be at Walker Bus Garage until noon. Parking after noon will be in the airport, and across the street at Emerald Dragon Karate. Admission is $3 per person, and free to those under the age of 16.As of earlier this week, there were nearly 250 cars registered for the show, according to Ted Kistler, who noted this will be the last year he serves as event chairman after 25 years. A new chairperson will be in place for next year's show, he added."Hopefully, we're going to have good weather," Kistler said. "And a great day."The event, sponsored by the Slatington Lions Club, Inc., will feature a flea market vendor setup, with an awards presentation later in the afternoon. There will be food, refreshments, and entertainment all day.An awards ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Kistler said there will be over 100 trophies awarded. However, this year, they will be done by registration numbers, and not by classes.There will be nine special awards: Lions President Award; Mayor's Award; Masonic Award; Bup Kibler Memorial Award; People's Choice Award; Oldest Vehicle in Show Award; Oldest Show Participant Award; Furthest Driven Show Vehicle Award; and Most Drastically Altered Award.In addition, Kistler said some lucky person will win a 1967 Mustang.
