Two Tamaqua area residents arrested

Two Tamaqua area residents were arrested by Pennsylvania State Police in Upper Hanover Township on Aug. 15 following a retail theft incident at a Wal-Mart store.

Samantha Lynn Wagenhurst, 30, and Carlos Martinez, 29, entered the Gravel Pike store that day and placed a variety of electronic items and DVDs into a shopping cart. Store security personnel reportedly watched the couple instruct a 13 year old to push the cart past all of the cash registers and exit the store. The child did as instructed and store personnel then stopped the family. Wagenhurst was arrested at the scene, while Martinez fled. He later turned himself in to Pennsylvania State Police at the Skippack Station.Both adults were charged with retail theft and corruption of a minor. They were arraigned before District Judge Karen Zucker, who set bail at $10,000 each. Unable to post bond, they were transported to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility to await preliminary hearings.
