Cancer study

The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers to take part in a Cancer Prevention Study. In an effort to better understand how to prevent cancer, the study will follow a select group of volunteers willing to make a long-term commitment, which includes completing survey forms into the future.The study group will be composed of men and women between the ages of 30 and 65, who have never been diagnosed with cancer.An enrollment session will be held Sept. 17 at the LCCC Morgan Center on High Street.For more information, or to schedule an appointment, visit

The event was catered by Christy Joy Catering, while members supplied the desserts.President Jean Machamer provided many surprises for the 68 members in attendance.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.Summer concertsThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the seventh year of its free Summer Concert Series. The concerts are held, from 6-8 p.m. on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station throughout the summer season.The next concert will be Aug. 29 and feature Jay Smar.
