A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a crash that occurred about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, in the area of 528 W. Bacon St., in Palo Alto borough.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Mary Darzinikas, 58, of New Philadelphia, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound when, for unknown reasons, she lost control. The car traveled onto the south berm and impacted with a parked 2007 Toyota Avalon.After sideswiping the Avalon the Cavalier impacted with a road sign, then turned 100 degrees clockwise and came to rest along the berm.Darzinikas was not injured. She was found to be under the influence and submitted to field sobriety tests. She was then placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson Street, Pottsville, for a blood test.The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers added.Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
