Bank robber still at large

An unidentified male is still at large after robbing the Sovereign Bank at the intersection of SR309 and SR895 in Snyders, West Penn Township, just before 10 a.m. yesterday morning. A pre-story appeared in yesterday's TIMES NEWS.

West Penn Police Chief Brian Johnson reported that a white male, possibly in his mid 30s to early 40s, walked into the bank and told a teller, "Give me all your money -100s and 50s."After receiving an unknown amount of cash, the robber left on a motorcycle westward onto Summer Valley Road (SR895) toward New Ringgold.West Penn Police responded within a short time after the robbery. In addition, state police and numerous police officers from several other communities responded to the scene.At 10:10 a.m., all surrounding police departments in both Schuylkill and Carbon County were issued a description of the robber.Johnson, who spent time investigating the bank surveillance footage, described the robber as being about 5 foot 6 inches tall, having an average to thin build, brownish or reddish colored hair and possibly having an above average-sized nose. The robber was also reported to be wearing a maroon or darker colored hoodie, dark glasses, blue jeans, white socks and sneakers.In addition, Johnson pointed out that the robber might have been riding a darker colored or maroon Harley Davidson.Johnson, who said there were no injuries, also said the man didn't appear to brandish a weapon.It was not stated how much money the robber got during the hold-up.In August of 2006, a man, completely dressed in camouflage, tried to rob this same bank as tellers were leaving for the night. That man, who was unsuccessful, was never caught.West Penn Police encourage anyone with information about yesterday's bank robbery, to call them at (570) 386-1100.
