Tractor pull held at Carbon County Fair on Sat.

A tractor pull, sponsored by the Pocono Old Tyme Farm Equipment Association for tractors from 1960 or older, was held at the Carbon County Fair on Saturday.

There were a few antiques but they were going to run with the classics, said Burdell Kuehner.Kuehner and John Cady were the event announcers.A sled is pulled as far as the tractor can go with an increasing weight as a weight box moves forward. It is judged on the greatest distance covered before the tractor comes to a standstill. Another tractor follows the tractor to pull the sled back to the starting point for the next contestant. There are also a few classes for modified tractors though most will be stock models, said Cady. Some tractors are fitted with extra weight on the front.A maximum speed of 3.5 miles per hour is allowed. The first class was for tractors of 6,500 pounds. When a tractor reaches its farthest point the wheels spin and dig up the track. A scraper smooths it and a roller packs the dirt to give the next tractor the same opportunity. For information check
