Lehighton bridge is being repaired

Repairs are being made to the Ninth Street Bridge in Lehighton by PennDOT. Construction foreman David Koin estimates the bridge will have all lanes opened in less than a week, in time for the beginning of the new school year. Sidewalks and an outer lane on the bridge were closed for over a year. PennDOT said the reason for the repairs is that an inspection of the bridge determined there was some rotational movement of the two wing walls on the southern abutment (Route 443 side). The repairs include installing concrete bracing to prevent further movement of the wing walls.
