Traffic stop leads to wanted person

A Kelayres man found himself in custody after he was stopped for speeding in Tamaqua on July 23.

Patrolman Richard Bekesy was monitoring traffic at 2:48 p.m. when he stopped a vehicle on SR309 for excessive speed. The driver was identified as Alexandre Vazquez, 26, of 20 Fourth St.Vazquez admitted to driving with a suspended license. A routine records check also found that Vazquez was wanted on an outstanding warrant issued by District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua. He also had ten warrants issued out of Luzerne County.During a pat down search the officer found a small round metal container in Vazquez's back pocket. The container had several pills in it which Vazquez said were Xanex tablets he purchased from "some dude on the street."He was transported to Bayer's office where he pleaded guilty, then was transported to district court in Hazleton.
