Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers recently, including a hit and run in which a driver is facing charges, and another involving horses.

The hit and run occurred about 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, along Sunshine Lane, in Hegins Township. Troopers said John J. Rountree Sr., 47, of Minersville, was driving a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser while delivering newspapers when his vehicle struck the driver's side door of a parked 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan. Damage was to the driver's side door of the Tiguan.After impact Rountree fled the scene westbound and delivered the remaining newspapers. He will be cited for accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property, troopers said.A one vehicle crash was reported about 2:55 a.m. on Saturday along SR25 (Market Street) in Gratz borough. Troopers said Tasha M. Donovan, 23, of Berrysburg, Dauphin County, was driving a 1993 Jeep Cherokee westbound when two horses entered the road in front of her from the north berm. She was unable to avoid a collision with one of the horses.After impact the horse traveled 90 feet down the road and came to rest in the eastbound lane, where it died. Donovan pulled off the north berm about 155 feet from the point of impact. Donovan sustained a minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention.
