Schuylkill driver facing DUI count

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 1:25 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, along Deep Creek Road, in Barry Township.

Troopers said Bryant M. Umholtz, 19, of Valley View, was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS eastbound when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the car while negotiating a left curve.The car went onto the berm and struck an embankment, and traveled up the embankment about 18 feet before striking a mailbox. The car continued out of control for another 72 feet before striking a small greenhouse and shrubbery. It then continued another 144 feet into the residence at 867 Deep Creek Road.The car defected off the foundation of the home and traveled north for 25 feet before coming to rest facing north.Umholtz sustained a minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention. Troopers said he showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI of alcohol and drugs.
