Fire in Mahoning causes family to flee residence

A kitchen fire in a mobile home in the Nis Hollow section of Mahoning Township early last evening forced a family to temporarily seek living quarters elsewhere.

Two adults and one child lived in the dwelling.The fire was discovered in the kitchen, but the entire mobile home filled with smoke, according to reports.An occupant managed to extinguish the fire before it got out of control.Members of the Mahoning Valley and Lehighton fire departments responded to the scene, as well as the Lehighton Ambulance Corps.The American Red Cross Greater Lehigh Valley Chapter assisted the family, providing it with lodging and food. The Red Cross provided the family (2 adults/1 child) with lodging and food.Jennifer Loconte, spokesperson for the Red Cross, said the agency will follow up with the family for additional services, if needed.
