Franklin 15's move to 2-0 in state tourney

Franklin Township moved to 2-0 in the 15 year-old Pennsylvania State Babe Ruth Tournament with another win on Friday.

The Franklin Township Gray squad also scored a win over the Jim Thorpe Red team in the Panther Valley 11-12 Little League Tournament.16-18 BABE RUTHKeystone American-Bucks CountyKeystone American suffered a tough, 4-3 loss in 9 innings to Bucks County in the loser's bracket of the 16-18 PA State Babe Ruth Tournament. The loss eliminated Keystone.Keystone took control early, as pitcher Dane Ciavarella cruised through the fisrt 5 innings. Ciavarella was aided by a three-run third inning. Keystone catcher Thatcher David reached on an error, followed by a walk to Anthony Rossino. Frank Nietz then delivered a triple to right field to plate the first two runs of the game. An RBI ground out by James Farano plated Keystone's third run.Bucks would chip away in the sixth inning. A leadoff single, which broke up Ciavarealla's perfect game, started the rally. After a sacrifice bunt and a walk, Bucks got a two-out, two-run double that made the score 3-2. Bucks would eventually have its inning end on a strong throw by Thatcher David to catch a runner trying to steal third.Keytone had an opportunity to add an insurance run in top seventh. But a recurring theme continued, as Keystone once again could not come up with a clutch two-out hit with a runner in scoring position.In the bottom of the ninth, Bucks County would get things going with a leadoff double. Brady Niehoff came on in a tough spot and delivered.Niehoff got the first batter he faced to ground into a double play. Niehoff would get out of the inning by inducing a ground ball to shortstop Jordan McElmoyle to end the inning and limit Chi Chester to one run.Franklin would finally get its offense going in the bottom of the fourth. KJ Snerr led off with a hit by pitch and Wyatt Clements would add a single. Niehoff would then help himself at the plate by delivering a hard hit single to left field to score Snerr. Two Sacrifice flies later by Ryan Malarkey and Daniel Keer would up the Franklin lead to 3-1.But Franklin wasn't done. A two-out single by Cordova, who would advance to third on an errant pickoff throw to first, came around to score on Ryan McCullough's single.Chi Chester would threaten in both the fifth and sixth innings, but Niehoff worked out of danger to keep the score 4-1.In the seventh, Chi Chester looked to get something going after a leadoff walk, but Franklin catcher KJ Snerr fired a dart to second to catch a Chi Chester runner stealing second base to deflate the rally and solidify another victory for Franklin.Franklin's next game will be played today against Broomall-Newtown at 1 p.m.ChiChester 010 000 0 - 1 5 2Franklin 000 400 x - 4 8 0Mitchell and Kerr; Cordova, Niehoff (2) and Snerr. Crum was also dominant on the mound, picking up the win and striking out five in the contest. Gunnar Williams added a homer of his own to help Franklin roll.Dart, Colarco and McCartney all had singles for Jim Thorpe.
