Feeling hot, hot, hot!
As temperatures swelled to the mid-90s this week, attendance at the Palmerton Memorial Pool has soared. From this Monday through Thursday, the pool averaged over 1,000 people per day, or about 400 more than usual, according to Larry Arner, pool manager."It's been a great week," Arner said. "We're seeing a lot of people that normally don't come are coming because of the heat."That certainly isn't the case with Joseph John, of Lehighton, a season pass member who was chock-full of praise for the pool."I think that [Arner] and the staff working here really deserve to be congratulated for their excellence in professionalism," John said. "Look at this place; to me, it's like a resort."Monica Walck, of Bowmanstown, said the pool was the ideal place for her and her son, Teagan Walck, 3, to relax."It's so hot out," Walck said. "It's time to cool down."That's exactly what Joe Janis of Palmerton did as he slid down the water slide."I come here when it's hot," said Janis, 69. "It's [the water slide] like a rocket."The pool is open from noon until 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 10-8 Saturdays, and 1-8 Sundays. For more information on the pool, visit
