Charge for missing tests in Carbon

To the Editor:

I read in the news and it was on television about the overcrowding at the Carbon County prison. The standard is if they miss a urine test they go back to jail for 30 days.I have a comment on that. I don't know how much it costs to keep one person incarcerated for 30 days, but I do know it's probably a lot and all at taxpayers expense. Unless a person comes back with a hot urine test, why not just fine them $50-100 the first time they miss one, $200-$300 the next time around and the third time they go back to jail. The county would make money and save the taxpayers probably thousands of dollars and also relieve some of the overcrowding go on right now. It doesn't make any sense to me to throw someone back in jail for 30 days just because they missed or were 20-10 minutes late to take thier urine test. All it does is raise our taxes and overcrowd our already overcrowded prisons and does nothing to help the county. Its more of a sensable solution to the problem than the way the way the county is conducting it now.Jamie L. ReedJim Thorpe
