Raider Band

The Tamaqua Raider Band will hold summer rehearsals on July 16 and July 23. Hours will be from 9-11 a.m. both days. These rehearsals are for the instrumentalists.Old and New Night will be held on July 30. New members will rehearse from 4-6 p.m. All instrumentalists and majorettes will rehearse from 6- 8 p.m.Band Camp will begin at 8 a.m. on Aug. 5. Camp is mandatory for all band members.All rehearsals will be held in the band room.Rush-Ryan seniorsThe Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met June 25 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 46 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session.Chaplain Kathleen Valentine provided the invocation. Reports were offered by secretary Gloria Gerhard and treasurer Shirley Becker. Carol and Don Deahm and Julia and Robert Clouser were welcomed back to the group.Birthday greetings were extended to Elaine Truskey, Penny Schlorf and Helene Clouser. The Deahms were congratulated on the observance of their 11th wedding anniversary. Upcoming events will include a July 29 trip to Shady Maple and trips to the Country Cupboard in August, the Bloomsburg Fair in September and Penn's Peak in October.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Veterans helpA representative from the Disabled American Veterans will be at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St., on July 8 to offer free veterans' claim service for veterans as well as widows and dependent children of veterans. Information and assistance will be provided for service-connected disability claims, low income pension, health care claims for service-connected disabilities and low income veterans and other questions concerning veterans' benefits.The representative will also be in Tamaqua on July 22.The DAV is committed to better lives for all veterans and their families.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.Activities for next week will include: Monday, church council meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, church Bible study meets from 6-8 p.m.Vacation Bible School will be held from 6-8 p.m., July 8-12, at Zion's Lutheran Church.Calvary MethodistBeginning this Sunday, all services and activities affiliated with Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, Tamaqua. The Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday, which will include Holy Communion. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m.Also this Sunday, the youth group will meet at 3 p.m. and a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.On Wednesday, an hour of praise and prayer will be held at 7 p.m.On July 25, also at 7 p.m., the Dixie Echoes from Pensacola, Fla., will present a mini concert at the tabernacle. The public is welcome to attend.Zion LutheranBeginning on July 6, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 101 N. Greenwood St., will offer a Saturday worship service. The contemporary style service will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the church social hall.Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m.Vacation Bible School will be held next week, from 6-8 p.m., Monday through Friday.
