One person is hurt in two-unit crash

One person was hurt in a two-vehicle crash at 11:20 a.m. June 22 at the intersection of SR534 and Barry S Road in Polk Township, Monroe County.

State police at the Lehighton said an unnamed passenger in one of the vehicles sustained minor injuries.The accident happened when a 2000 Jeep GRA driven by Gregory Charlestin, 36, of Irvington, N.J., was eastbound on Barry S Road when it approached the intersection with 534. Police said the driver was attempting to leave a stopped position and make a right turn onto 534 when he failed to yield the right of way to approaching traffic while entering the roadway from a posted stop sign. Police said that caused a 2007 GMC driven by James L. Smith, 64, of Kunkletown, to strike the driver's side rear of the Jeep.After the initial impact, the Jeep spun around counter-clockwise and traveled about 10 feet while the GMC went about eight feet southwest and came to rest off the west berm of 534. The Jeep came to a rest facing northwest in the southbound lane of 534.Police said Charlestin will be charged with duties at a stop sign.The passenger was one of three other persons traveling with Charlestin at the time of the mishap.
