A Luzerne County man died and another was injured in a head-on collision that occurred about 4:50 p.m. on Monday, July 1, along SR924, at Quad Graphics, in Hazle Township.

State police at Hazleton said Carlos Taveras-Martes, 35, of West Hazleton, was driving a 1994 Honda Accord westbound when the vehicle began to hydroplane causing him to lose control.The Honda crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane where it collided head-on with a 2010 Volkswagen Sport driven by Christopher Jones, 43, of Drums. After impact both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane.Both drivers were taken to the Hazleton General Hospital. Taveras-Martes died at the hospital, troopers said. Jones was admitted with moderate injuries.Taveras-Martes was not wearing a seat belt, troopers noted.
