State police at Lehighton report that Zachary Edward Mehefko, 20, of Lansford, was stopped on June 23 at 5:08 p.m. for a vehicle code violation while driving a 2007 Subaru Impreza westbound on SR248 near the Bowmanstown exit. Damen Randall Rice, 24, of Palmerton, was a passenger.

Mehefko was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance, troopers said. He is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI).Further investigation revealed that Mehefko and Rice were also in possession of a controlled substance. Drug charges are also pending against the two men.
