Apparently someone is trying to mess with the maintenance department at the Weissport Borough building.

The action was discovered on Friday when the dump truck keys, along with the key for the police car, which was inside a locked box, went missing.Arland Moyer, council member, said that the key for the truck had been placed in the console and was covered, when the worker discovered the key missing, plus a second set was also gone from the locked box. Moyer said he knew that the second key to the police car had also been inside the locked box.Borough worker Pete Pywar added that someone also cut three wires on the lawn mower and the power box to the mower was also missing.Moyer said that to prevent additional vandalism and because he was unaware of how the keys went missing, he had the locks rekeyed to the borough building at a cost of $460.Councilmember Tim Rehrig asked at Monday night's council meeting who changed the locks to the building because he had gotten a call from Dana Brubaker, secretary, who needed to get inside the building and was not able to do so.Moyer said that when the worker discovered the key missing to the truck, he had been alerted and as he was in charge of the building, he had the locks changed to prevent additional problems.Following the meeting, Rehrig then questioned Pywar as to how someone had gotten the keys and inside the building. He suggested that a new key be made for the truck, since both keys were missing.Pywar said that he felt like he was being interrogated and said that the worker was working alone, and that it had been their practice to store the key in the truck while they were outside working.Rehrig said that he had not meant to sound menacing, but was trying to get information as to how the building was entered, when it should have been locked, and how someone was able to get the keys to the truck.In other matters:Council President Gene Kershner said there are several people keeping a watch on the rising Lehigh River."We have several points that we watch and in the past, we have noted it going up a foot and a half in a very short period," said Kershner. "The Frances Walter Dam holds back a lot of water."We keep an eye on the river during serious weather patterns," said Kershner. "With the amount of rain forecast, this is a serious weather pattern we are in. We watch the levee because the water has a soft way to push water underneath the levee because of the underground piping for sewer and water.Kershner explained the areas where he checks the rising river to a resident, who wanted to know where the point areas were so that he could keep watch too.He said that there were three key points along the levee where he watches the water.• Council voted to pay Bobby O'Gurek to provide a website for the borough and maintain it.• They also voted to prepay $1,500 to K&K Fuel Oil for fuel oil to heat the borough building during the heating season.
