Superior Plus Energy, Montoursville, will provide propane, heating oil, gasoline and diesel fuel for East Penn Township from July 6, 2013 through July 5, 2014. The township supervisors awarded the bid during their meeting Monday.

Superior will provide 5,000 gallons of propane, 4,000 gallons of heating oil, 7,000 gallons of gasoline and 8,500 gallons of diesel fuel. The company bid used the Opis Scranton average, plus a charge of .1949 per gallon on the heating oil, .25 per gallon on the gasoline and .179 for the diesel. For propane, Superior used the Mt. Belvieu pricing plus .385 per gallon. Heller's Gas, Berwick, was the only other bidder and only bid on propane, the Mt. Belvieu price plus .50 per gallon.The supervisors approved adding 23.7 acres to the township's Agricultural Security Area, bringing the total to 3,257.4 acres. Farmers who enroll their land in an Ag Security program may continue their farming activities and are protected from having unreasonable restrictions placed against those activities.In response to questions from citizen Harvey Keiper, Chairman Dean Kercsmar reiterated that the township is holding firm on the July 30 deadline imposed on local business owner Clair Troxell.Kercsmar met with Troxell on Memorial Day, and the supervisors have given Troxell until July 30 to clean up his property.The township's zoning violation fines against business Troxell total $624,500. He has been cited and fined for three separate zoning violations: for storing commercial vehicles at a building previously used as a schoolhouse and community center, for raising pigs on a property along Route 895, and for using a property to store junk, tires and scrap metals.Troxell challenged the zoning ordinances and fines in the Court of Common Pleas of Carbon County, and also the Commonwealth Court, which affirmed the fines.In recent months, Troxell has made a $2,500 payment against the fines.If he doesn't take action to clean up the property by the July 30 deadline, the supervisors will direct township solicitor James Nanovic to execute against Troxell's property.The township office will be closed July 4, 5 and 22, and August 5 through 9. The next supervisor's meeting will be held Thursday, August 1 at 5 p.m.
