Successful blood drive

Whether it was because they felt it was their civic duty, they wanted to enjoy the air-conditioned Fellowship Hall at the First United Church of Christ, plus the extra refreshments Palmerton donors are offered; or they wanted to enter one of several drawings Miller Keystone Blood Center is running this summer to encourage donations, 79 potential donors registered at the June 24 community blood drive, and 70 units of blood were collected.There were seven first-time donors. The following people reached gallon levels: Donald E. Berger, 6 gallons; Mary Eckhart, 4 gallons; Robert Stevenson, 4 gallons (in Palmerton); Charles Hinkle, 3 gallons; Gayle Eckhart, 2 gallons; Carol Gougher, William Hayes, Kathy Lower, Ana Melo and Frank Tamburri, 1 gallon each. The blood drive was sponsored with Willard and Annie George and Tom Davies.A large number of volunteers contributed to this drive. They included Pam Andrews, George Ashman, Mary Avixon, Mary Beth Beers, Harry Brown, Jane Cervenak, "Honey" Cyr, Thomasine Falcone, Linda Finley, Jean Fritzinger, Shirley Greene, Jean Halmi, Betty Hartman, "Biff" Hayes, Cindy Heimbach, Rosemary Heydt, Susan Hunsicker, Bernice Kleintop, Nancy Kresge, Paula Lendvay, Shirley Neff, Helen Nonnemaker, Darlene Nothstein, Richard Nothstein, Chris and Susan Olivia, Carol Papay, Evelyn Plechavy, Marge Porambo, Gwen Rodrigues, Terri Sebelin, Betty Steigerwalt, Sue Steigerwalt, Mary Taschler, Annette Wargo, Tara Wargo, Brenda Wentz and Joan Wivell.Miller Keystone is continuing its summer promotions through August.
