A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 1:16 p.m. on June 19 along SR443 in East Brunswick Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said James W. Swope, 56, of New Ringgold, was driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound when he failed to negotiate a right curve in the road. The Jeep traveled through the east and westbound lanes, onto the berm and struck a tree.Swope showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests. He was then transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test.The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said. He was also cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
