Carbon man facing assault count

A Carbon County man is facing an assault count following a domestic incident. State police at Lehighton said the incident occurred about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, at 1435 Germans Rd., Lot F-5, Stonybrook Estates, in East Penn Township.

Troopers responded to that address where Erin Ziegelmeier and Edgar Kane Cockey Jr., reside together. On scene Ziegelmeier told troopers that she and Cockey had an argument inside their residence. She also alleged that during the argument Cockey choked her and punched her in the face. She also said that he grabbed her hands and twisted them behind her back. As a result she said she suffered bruises on the front of her neck, face, and left hand.She also said while he was assaulting her Cockey made threats he was going to kill her.Troopers said they observed recent physical injuries to Ziegelmeier including the back of her left hand bruised and swollen, the front of her neck and face also bruised.Troopers took Cockey into custody and charged him with simple assault and harassment. He was lodged in the county prison in Nesquehoning pending arraignment.
