Two facing drug counts in Monroe

Two Monroe County residents are facing drug charges following incidents on June 13.

State police at Lehighton identified the two suspects as Matthew John Kozero, 22, and Shannon Nichole Bernek, 19, both of 1046 Interchange Road, in Polk Township.Troopers said the two were charged following an investigation that began as a criminal mischief complaint at the residence. During the course of an investigation troopers developed information leading them to suspect illegal drug activity at the residence.During an interview with Kozero, he admitted to selling illegal narcotics from the residence, indicating he had sold not only marijuajna but stronger drugs.A search warrant was obtained later on June 13 and troopers from Lehighton, Fern Ridge, and Swiftwater barracks and a K9 unit went to the home. Extra personnel were used due to the fact that Kozero had possession of a firearm, and the residence housed eight adults, a baby, as well as six dogs.During the search troopers found numerous items of drug paraphernalia as well as items to manufacture and distribute narcotics. Also seized were weapons, suspected marijuana seeds, and 10 unused glycine packets of susepcted heroin.Kozero and Bernek were charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additional charges are pending.
