Crashes probed

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.

A one vehicle crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. on June 3 along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County. Troopers said James D. Brien, 39, of St. Louis, Mo., was driving a 2005 Saab 92X westbound when a bear cub entered the road in front of him. He applied his brakes and swerved to avoid hitting the cub but was unable to do so, troopers said. After striking and killing the cub the car spun out and came to rest in the grassy median.Brien was not injured with damages minor to his vehicle.A one vehicle crash was reported about 7:45 a.m. on June 4 along Stony Mountain Road, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. A 17-year-old male from Jim Thorpe, was driving a 2000 Subaru Legacy when it left the road and collded into a utilty pole.The teen, and two teen passengers, both males age 17, and both from Albrightsville, were injured. The one teen passenger was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, by Pennstar helicopter, and the other to the Geisinger-Wyoming, in Plains Township, Luzerne County, by ambulance. The driver had minor injuries.Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Penn Forest Fire Company and fire police, and Lehighton and Lake Harmony ambulances personnel.The teen driver was cited for careless driving.Troopers probed a crash about 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, along SR940 in East Side Boro. Troopers said Rebecca G. Allegretto, 21, of White Haven, was driving a 2003 Oldsmobile Bravada westbounnd and stopped in the lane of travel waiting to make a left turn. Troopers said she was blinded by sun glare and crashed into the rear of a 2010 Ford Escape driven by Mary J. Wilkinson, 58, of White Haven.No one was injured. Damages were disabling to the Bravada and to the front drivers side of the Escape, which was driven from the scene.
