Concert under the stars Thursday in Lehighton

On Thursday evening, June 13, the Lehighton Band along with their guests, the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band, will present the first of the summer series of "Concert Under The Stars."

The program, to be held in the Lehighton Amphitheater beginning at 8 p.m., will feature the two bands individually as well as several combined numbers featuring a fifty piece band.The Boys and Girls Band will open the program with several selections including Cora Gable's "New World Salute" as well as Curly Putman's "Green, Green Grass Of Home" and "Fantasia On the 'Dargason' " by Gustav Holst.The second part of the program will feature the Lehighton Band starting with Henry Fillmore's "Golden Friendships March." They will continue with "Raymond Overture" by Ambrose Thomas and "American Flourish" by Robert Smith.Also on their program will be a medley of song arranged by Warren Barker entitled "Salute To Bob Hope."The combined bands will begin their portion of the program with "The Patriot" by John Williams followed by Jeffrey Taylor's "Festiva."These selections will be directed by Jackie DePue, conductor of the Boys and Girls Band.Paul R. Smith, conductor of the Lehighton Band will wield the baton for "An Irish Ayre For Winds" by Warren Barker, "Rockwell Portrait" by Erik Morales and O. J. Farrar's "Indiana State Band March."The program will conclude with the Fillmore arrangement of "The Star Spangled Banner."This concert is free and open to the public and is sponsored by donations from area businesses, professional people and music lovers from throughout the area.In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall, Sixth and Cypress Streets in Lehighton.
